The opportunity

Wollongong City Council is looking for experienced and adaptable Mobile Plant Operators/Truck Drivers who are ready to take on a dynamic role working across civil construction, maintenance and parks operations throughout the Local Government Area.

This is a permanent full‑time position. Salary from : $78,929.38 up to $85,916.92 per annum plus superannuation (Salary will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).
A minimum increase of 3.25% to the salary from 1 July 2026 in accordance with Council's Enterprise
What you'll be doing
- Operating trucks and mobile plant safely and competently
- Loading, securing and unloading plant and equipment
- Undertaking labouring duties including concrete formwork and finishing
- Assisting with construction and maintenance of roads, footpaths, drainage and public infrastructure
- Working flexibly across teams and adjusting to changing daily priorities
- Identifying hazards and applying WHS and environmental controls
- Completing timesheets, work orders and documentation using Council systems and tablets
- Providing professional, customer‑focused service when interacting with the community
- Opportunities for weekend work and overtime may be offered if operationally required.
About you
- You are an experienced Mobile Plant Operator and/or Truck Driver.
- You enjoy varied, hands‑on work and are happy to move between teams and tasks as needed.
- You are safety‑focused, reliable and physically capable of outdoor operational work.
- You're willing to assist with labouring tasks such as formwork and general site works.
- You can work well independently or as part of a crew and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- You're comfortable using tablets and basic digital systems for timesheets and job records.
- You deliver good customer service and interact professionally with the public.
- You're keen to learn new skills and gain experience across civil, maintenance and parks operations.
You will bring
- A current plant Certificate of Competency (RTO) or evidence of previously holding a WorkCover National Certificate
- A current MR or HR class driver licence
- Experience operating and maintaining trucks and civil plant
- A White Card and experience in concrete formwork and general labouring
- Willingness to obtain additional licences or tickets as required
