About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a capable and motivated individual to join Council’s Catchment Management team on a permanent full-time basis. The position is located at Council’s Rydalmere Operations Centre at 316 Victoria Road, Rydalmere.

The Dam Operations & Telemetry Officer (DOTO) is responsible for the safe and compliant management of Council’s dams and catchment monitoring assets by coordinating day-to-day dam operations and supporting the reliability and availability of associated telemetry and monitoring systems. The role also actively contributes to flood preparedness through effective data oversight, reporting, and stakeholder liaison, working closely with internal teams and specialist consultants to meet regulatory obligations and support informed operational decision-making.
 

On a daily basis you will:

  • Operate, maintain, and manage Council’s FloodSmart flood early warning system and associated telemetry assets that support Council’s declared dams and relevant catchment monitoring assets.
  • Coordinate day-to-day dam operations and undertake dam site surveillance inspections and maintenance activities for Council’s declared (and non-declared dams), including implementing appropriate and effective dam safety management practices, in line with Dams Safety NSW regulations and requirements, and in liaison with the Coordinator Catchment Management.
  • Lead the expansion of Council's catchment wide monitoring network, including timely maintenance, ongoing support, and continuous improvement of Council's FloodSmart system and various telemetry equipment - sensors, gauges, transmitters, CCTV cameras, etc.

 

About You 
You have previous experience managing end-to-end telemetry operations, including programming, testing, upgrading and supporting systems such as SCADA, PLC, and early warning or emergency preparedness systems. You are also a team player determined to work collaboratively with Catchment Management staff and other internal teams to meet Council's Community Strategic Plan (CSP) goals. 

You will also bring:

  • Experience managing Dam surveillance inspections and reporting, dam operations and maintenance, and dam safety management system documentation.
  • (Highly Desirable) Dam safety engineering and dam safety emergency response management.  
     

Essential Qualifications:

  • Recognised Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Systems Engineering or other relevant technical qualification in electronic systems.
  • Class “C’ Driver’s Licence.


The successful candidate will have a knack for providing excellent customer service (internal and external customers), will be approachable and communicate effectively with technical and managerial Council staff.

We are offering an attractive remuneration from $129,776.59 to $142,860.50 plus 12% superannuation.
