At the City of Ryde, we're passionate about preserving and enhancing our urban tree canopy, protecting biodiversity, and creating greener, healthier spaces for our community. We're looking for an experienced and motivated Tree Management Officer to join our team and play a key role in managing and protecting trees across public and private land throughout the City of Ryde.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an arboriculture professional who enjoys balancing technical expertise with stakeholder engagement and wants to make a tangible impact on the local environment.
This role is responsible for assessing and reporting on the health of trees on both public and private land. It is also responsible for maintaining Council's significant Tree Register, Street Tree Management Plan and Street Tree Planting Program.
Key requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Arboriculture at Level 5/Diploma level or currently undertaking study to obtain with thorough knowledge of Australian Standards relating to tree work
- Demonstrated experience in tree management, sound knowledge of Australian Standards relating to tree work and strong technical expertise in tree assessment and maintenance
- Well developed written communication skills with experience preparing reports and written material regarding tree maintenance issues
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage high volume workloads with limited supervision
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to discuss and resolve tree issues with members of the community, residents, senior officers and other stakeholders
- Current driver’s licence

We're seeking an experienced Tree Management Officer who shares this passion and is looking for a role where they can make a genuine impact every day.
In this diverse and rewarding position, you will assess the health and condition of trees across public and private land, provide professional arboricultural advice, and help ensure Council's trees are managed sustainably and in line with relevant legislation, policies and standards. You will play an important role in protecting significant trees, managing street tree programs, supporting biodiversity initiatives and contributing to the long-term growth of Ryde's urban canopy.
This role offers a unique balance of fieldwork, technical assessment and stakeholder engagement. You'll work closely with residents, contractors, developers, internal departments and community stakeholders, providing expert advice, responding to enquiries and helping resolve complex tree-related matters. You will also investigate compliance issues, prepare reports and recommendations, and contribute to the ongoing development of Council's tree management strategies and programs.
To be successful, you will hold a Diploma (Level 5) in Arboriculture or currently undertaking study towards obtaining and a current NSW Class C Driver Licence. You will bring demonstrated experience in tree management, sound knowledge of Australian Standards relating to tree work and strong technical expertise in tree assessment and maintenance. Equally important will be your ability to communicate effectively, prepare high-quality written reports and build positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Your commencing annual salary will range from $99,639.10 to $118,671.98 + Motor Vehicle Allowance $13,500 + Superannuation dependent on your experience and qualifications.
